NEWS staff report

The Shelbyville volleyball team overcame a slow start to beat Guerin Catholic Tuesday.

Abby Wood, Eryn Conger and Stephenny Logan helped the Golden Bears (2-2) take a 22-25, 25-23, 25-8, 25-20 win.

“The
first game and about half of the second game we were just not playing
well,” Shelbyville coach Anne Barnes said. “We were hitting timid, lot
of hitting errors.

“About halfway through the second game,
they started loosening up, hitting crisp. Then, in the third game, they
just exploded. Everybody was calling for the ball. We had a lot of
blocks. They just did fantastic.”

Wood finished with 20 kills and 14 digs. Conger had 31 assists. And Logan tallied eight kills and seven blocks.

“Our lack of energy and enthusiasm almost cost us a game, and that’s just not acceptable,” Rouse said.
