The
Shelbyville girls’ basketball team opened a new season at Yorktown Saturday,
but it suffered from the same offensive woes as last season.
Yorktown
beat the visiting Golden Bears 61-37. It was Shelbyville’s seventh sub-40
performance in its last eight games dating back to last year.
“We
just didn’t score,” Shelbyville coach Stacie Cepin said. “A lot of
missed shots. A lot of missed opportunities. We missed a lot of layups.”
Sophomore
guard Molly Beard and sophomore center Jill Hopper scored 13 points each to
lead the Tigers (2-0, 1-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference). Yorktown is off to its
first 2-0 start since 2000-2001.
Beard
made four 3-pointers.
“We
were out of sync to start the game,” Cepin said. “(Yorktown) had a
game under its belt and it looked like they were ready to play.”
Chelsea
Weaver (11 points), Bailee Runnebohm (eight points) and Caitlin Mills (eight
points) led Shelbyville, which will host Greensburg Tuesday in the Pirates’
season opener.
