The Lady Lions gymnastics
squad competed in front of the home crowd for the first time this
season and despite a couple of injuries, were able to finish second in
the three-team meet.

Shelbyville won the team title with 91.35 with the Lady Lions second at 85.6 and Triton Central third at 51.15.

“The girls did pretty well when you take
into account that they missed almost a week of practice due to last
week’s weather. That along with the first home meet jitters kind of led
to a few more beam falls than we are accustomed to,” RCHS head coach
Karen Day noted. “We also suffered a couple of injuries early that took
out senior Sarah Niedenthal after two events and freshman Kristiann
Maggard, who injured her ankle during timed warm ups. We really missed
both girls and hope to have them back soon.”

Rushville started on the uneven bars and Niedenthal took third with 7.05 and Ashley Murphy was fourth with 7.00.

On the vault, Niedenthal finished second with 8.4 followed by Murphy third 8.3 and Mariah Cain fifth 8.25.

Hannah Lukens took second place on the balance beam with a 7.5.

On the floor exercise, Hannah Orme was second with 7.5 followed by Samantha Bostic fifth with 7.3 and Murphy sixth with 7.25.

Murphy finished fourth overall in the all-around competition with 28.6.

Rushville travels to Morristown Thursday
for a three-way meet with the Lady Yellow Jackets and Decatur Central.
The Lady Lions then host the 8-team invitational in the RCHS gym
addition Saturday.
