Staff report
It was a
highly successful round one in sectional play for the Hoosier Heritage
Conference. The league went 5-3 with one of the defeats coming in an
intra-conference contest. Moreover, it garnered at least one high profile
victory.
The marquis
contest in the first round was Delta versus Fort Wayne South. The Eagles
mounted a strong defensive effort to throttle their Summit Conference foes
21-7. Mt. Vernon and Rushville were also a bit defensive. The Marauders blitzed
New Castle 48-0 and the Lions downed Greensburg 15-11.
The most
offensive battle of the night was the game between HHC foes. New Palestine used
its high powered offense to subdue Pendleton heights 41-21. Shelbyville also
put some points on the board in routing Franklin County 34-14.
The losses
suffered by the HHC were delivered to Greenfield-Central and Yorktown. The
Tigers fell to a tough Hamilton Heights squad 21-14 while the Cougars were
fenced by Anderson Highland 36-6.
Things will
get no easier in round two. Rushville has a particularly hard test in facing
ranked Batesville in Sectional 22. In 4A, Delta now faces an improving Muncie
South squad. New Palestine and Mt. Vernon may have the best of it among HHC
teams. The Dragons face 6-4 Indianapolis Arlington in one half of Sectional 13
while the Marauders vie with 6-4 Anderson Highland in the other bracket.
