SB: New Palestine leads four HHC teams in softball rankings

 Softball season is here and it appears the Hoosier Heritage Conference will once again be loaded with powerful squads on the diamond. Four of the schools are ranked in the preseason poll of Indiana’s best. That includes New Palestine claiming the top spot in the 3A poll. The Dragons edged Mishawaka Marian for the top honors. Two other HHC teams are ranked in 3A. Shelbyville is 18th and Yorktown is 24th.

Meanwhile, the annual gorilla in the league, Pendleton Heights, begins the season ranked eighth in 4A. Here is a look at the complete polls in each class.

GYM: Shelbyville’s Boring making a mark

 NEWS staff report

In
a three-way meet with No. 6 Roncalli and Warren Central, Shelbyville’s
Lauren Boring tied for first in the all-around with 33 points.

Roncalli won the meet with 105.85 points, ahead of the host Golden Bears (95.2) and Warren Central (93.8).

Boring,
a junior, also finished second on the floor exercise (8.5), third on
the vault (8.95) and sixth on the uneven bars (7.85).

Shelbyville’s Paige Durphey placed third in the all-around (29.6) and sixth on the balance beam (7.725).

The
Golden Bears will host Tri today in their final regular season meet.
They will compete in the sectional at Warren Central Saturday.
